Valentine’s Day is reminder to show your lady some much-deserved love and appreciation. We know you love her all year round. But the reality is, we all know how easy to slip into the mundane routines of life, the “roommate phase.” We catch ourselves not doing the little things we should be doing to nurture our relationship. A Valentine’s gift is a nice gesture to remind her how much you care.
The stores right now are full of the basic Valentine’s Day gifts and center aisle suggestions with all the same items we see every year. But your Valentine is unique and special to you, and her gift should be too. This Valentine’s Day, skip the heart shaped jewelry and teddy bears. Trust me, you can do better.
Instead, get your Valentine something that helps to take care of her. By focusing on how to care for her, you can come up with great, practical ideas to make her days better. If you don’t know where to start, we’ve come up with 14 great ideas (with links to my personal favorites) to help get your creative juices flowing to find your Valentine a gift to make her feel loved, appreciated and cared for.
1. Comfortable Pajamas
You may be tempted to get the skimpy, lacy pajamas or lingerie that you’d like to see her in – Don’t. Instead, opt for a pajama set she can wear around the house, feel cozy and comfortable in. With a good set, she will be able to wear them all year long, not just for one day. Plus, comfy pajamas still will look great on your Valentine, and on the floor *wink wink*.
2. Digital Photo Frame
Think of a Digital Photo Frame as your own personal highlight reel. This option is great to show her the photos you love, and build your connection by sharing with her the stories behind the photos and why you love them. With this option, you aren’t just getting her the frame itself, but an inside look at how you see her and your relationship through your eyes.
3. Perfume
Perfume is a classic, classy gift option. I don’t know a single woman who doesn’t like to smell nice. Perfume is one of those every day little luxuries. It’s something that she might not buy for herself, but would be nice to have. It is also an intimate gift, especially if you take the time to find one that you know she will like, but that you like as well.
4. Noise Cancelling Headphones
Hear me out, a good pair of noise cancelling headphones are an absolute game changer. This is an especially good gift for the ladies spend the majority of their day surrounded by chaos, whether it be their job, kids, even you. Having a comfortable, reliable pair of noise cancelling headphones to allow them a way to escape the chaos without leaving their house can do wonders for their mental health.
5. A New Journal & Pens
If your girl doesn’t have a good journal yet, I would bet she has thought about journaling before and would be up for trying it. Journaling can be a healthy way to organize your thoughts while providing an outlet for the emotions she may not want to talk about. If she has journaled before, a high-quality blank journal is the way to go. If she would be newer to journaling, or getting back into it, consider a prompted journal.
6. A Good Book
If your lady is a reader, get her that book she talks about wanting to read or pick out book for her that you think she’d like based on the books she’s liked in the past. This is an easy way to show her you pay attention and take interest in her interests, while giving her a personalized gift based on her interests. Another option if she doesn’t have one yet, an Amazon Kindle can house all her favorite books on a tablet that she can take anywhere.
7. Vase and Flowers
Elevate the basic flower purchase this year by first getting her a vase that matches her décor or aesthetic. Skip the flower shop basic order that comes in a red or pink vase for Valentine’s. Instead, pick out a vase she could use year-round, and for any occasion. This adds a personal touch to the gift of flowers. Every time you get her flowers in the future, reach for your vase to put them in.
8. New Bath Towels
There is not much else more satisfying than fresh, new, fluffy towels. If her current bath towels have seen better days, consider getting her a new towel or set of towels. We use towels almost every day on our bare skin, and old, rough towels can make an everyday task slightly less enjoyable. It’s a simple way to remind her that she deserves the best, even in the little, routine aspects of life.
9. Bath Tray
If your Valentine decompresses with a bath, a bathtub caddy can take her relaxation up a notch. It spans across the tub to provide a place to hold her phone, tablet, a book, even a wine glass. This can help give your girl an extra push to relax and escape within her own home. A way to elevate this option is by making sure she knows when she needs some space, she can count on you to take the nightly responsibilities (like the kids, cleaning up after dinner, etc.), and let her take a relaxing bath.
10. Robe and Slippers
This option is right along the same lines as the pajamas. If your lady loves to be comfortable or is always cold, a new fuzzy robe and slippers can make her day-to-day existence at home more enjoyable, especially in the winter months.
11. Indoor Garden
For the lady with a green thumb or the fresh-herb-obsessed chef, an indoor garden is a great way to bring some light and life into her day, regardless of the weather outside. This option is definitely interest or hobby specific. If your lady has ever talked about growing her own herbs or starting seeds indoors for her spring garden, this gift option might be perfect for her!
12. New Water Tumbler
If she doesn’t have an aesthetic water tumbler yet, this Simple Modern Trek tumbler is my personal favorite. Water is a basic life necessity, and it is likely that she is not drinking enough of it. For some reason, an aesthetic cup with a straw, guaranteed to keep your drink cold for hours, makes it easier to prioritize drinking water. You don’t need to stand in line for hours or pay an outrageous amount for a Stanley cup. These Simple Modern tumblers from Target are a high quality, beautiful and affordable option.
13. Weekender Bag
A new weekender bag can be a stylish way for her to take whatever she needs, wherever she is going. A practical bag like this won’t be limited to only being used for overnight trips away from home, while that definitely is an option. A good bag is a catch-all for a change of clothes, a book for a long wait somewhere, things to keep kids occupied, don’t forget snacks, the list goes on.
14. Nightstand Charging Station
Help her organize her night, and her space, with an all-in-one charging station for her nightstand. Again, this may sound lame, but if your lady hates fiddling with cords and outlets, or has a cluttered nightstand, this may be a great gift option. A tool to help her organize or simplify her nighttime routine will improve an annoying process to get her in bed and asleep easier.
If your woman is often caring for others, the family, for you, show your love and appreciation this Valentine’s Day by taking extra special care of her. If you get her something she has wanted but has gone without, something she uses everyday that could use an upgrade, or something to feed her interests and soul, then you are on the right track to a perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea for her!
